While developing and implementing new visualization techniques we come across particularly beautiful, informative visual representations of complex data.
Following up on our solar report, at the bottom of the page you will find a network graph of global scale: Every node represents an international company, an edge connecting two companies means that those companies collaborated in the field of solar technology at some point during the last 3 years. The larger a node, the more solar patents have been filed by the respective company.
The network is dominated by three large collaboration clusters: China, Japan and Korea. There are almost as many U.S. solar tech companies as there are in Japan - but they are spread out over “The Net”, i.e., they “go more global” than their Asian competitors.
As you can see, network graphs can provide insights not only on a small scale, but from a bird’s eye view as well.
